LOS ANGELES — James Deen will become the newest director on the high-profile roster of Evil Angel this July.
Deen, the 2013 XBIZ Male Performer of the Year, has built a diverse portfolio of work, performing in everything from couples erotica and nasty gonzo to hardcore BDSM scenes.
“To me, sex should be motivated by what I feel, not by a formulaic mandate,” Deen said.
That approach has led Deen to the industry acclaim and, since 2008, to making his own films. “It’s an honor to be included as a director with a company that includes John Stagliano and Rocco Siffredi,” said Deen, speaking respectively of Evil Angel’s pioneering founder and its iconic international performer/director.
Deen, who emerged as mainstream crossover sensation in 2012, said he is driven to continue creating smut no matter how high his mainstream star rises. Evil Angel General Manager Christian Mann considers Deen a great fit for the company.
Mann remarked, “While I am excited about the marketing opportunity garnered by James’ crossover appeal, none of that mattered to John [Stagliano]. To become an Evil Angel director, James had to meet the same criteria as every one on our roster — their work had to appeal to John’s innate sense of what makes good smut. I’m happy to say James Deen’s directorial efforts have met that standard.”
Deen will direct monthly movies for Evil Angel, debuting in July with gonzo title “James Deen Loves Butts.” That one will star Dana DeArmond, Mason Moore and Jessie Rogers, along with Deen himself.
Indeed, Deen will be performing as well as directing at Evil Angel. Having worked in more than 3,000 scenes since 2004, Deen has earned the Male Performer of the Year honor from every major voting body during that time, including XBIZ, AVN and XRCO. He also was named XBIZ Crossover Star of the Year at the 2013 ceremony in January.
Some of his mainstream work includes starring with Lindsay Lohan in “The Canyons,” directed by Paul Schrader (“Taxi Driver,” “American Gigolo”) and written by literary figure Bret Easton Ellis ("Less Than Zero," "American Psycho"). Deen’s been profiled in GQ and was the subject of a photo shoot and interview at RollingStone.com. He’s been interviewed on ABC’s “Nightline” and on CNBC.
His sex tape with Farrah Abraham, the star of MTV’s “Teen Mom,” has reaped heavy coverage at TMZ and E! Entertainment. He says his blog at JamesDeen.com gets more than 10,000 unique visitors a day. He’s also become a regular draw on the college lecture circuit.
