LOS ANGELES — Wasting no time after a storm of mainstream media coverage, VividTV announced that it would air TV reality star Farrah Abraham’s personal sex tape on May 6.
The film, "Farrah 'Teen Mom' Superstar," is the latest celebrity sex tape to be aired on VividTV’s newly launched 24/7 linear TV channel and VividTV OnDemand, that the company said have a combined distribution of more than 52-million households in the U.S. and internationally on major pay TV platforms.
“Farrah has generated a tremendous amount of media coverage this past month and Google searches on her are through the roof,” VividTV president Ken Boenish said. “This is exactly the kind of unique content that sets VividTV apart. Our services are centered on leveraging Vivid’s immense brand cachet to bring content to TV platforms that is exclusive and decidedly different.”
Vivid said the controversial movie was made privately by the former cheerleader from Council Bluffs, Iowa who became a star on the hit MTV series "Teen Mom." She shot the footage for her personal use with male adult film star James Deen, and it became the subject of intense media scrutiny when its existence came to light in early April. Late last month, Vivid Entertainment acquired rights to distribute the movie, which includes non-stop sex featuring the breakout reality star.
Boenish added “Our celebrity sex tapes, super hero parodies and other exclusive, award winning movies are unmatched in the marketplace. As a result, TV platforms around the world are moving quickly to launch both our VividTV branded 24/7 linear TV channel as well as the VividTV OnDemand service. Our distribution has more than doubled in the last three months alone. We expect to see continued rapid expansion of our services in the U.S., Latin America, Europe and Canada for the balance of this year and into 2014.”
Vivid Entertainment co-chariman Bill Asher added, “We are extremely pleased with the progress of our television division. It is an important part of the company’s overall aggressive growth strategy."
The announcement of the channel launch and acquisition of “Farrah Superstar” comes just weeks after the company revealed agreements for Vivid Cabaret gentlemen’s clubs in both Los Angeles and Manhattan.
Asher said, “We feel that the time is right for expansion of the Vivid brand into a number of adult marketplaces, and television is definitely a cornerstone of that expansion."
The new film joins Vivid’s collection of celebrity sex tapes including Kim Kardashian, Kendra Wilkinson and Pamela Anderson among others.
