CHATSWORTH, Calif. — Gross revenue is up 13 percent for the U.S. adult entertainment industry, FOX Business says in a report.
At Penthouse's Chatsworth studios for a taped program called "The Business of Vice," FOX Business reporter Liz Claman on Friday floated some numbers about the adult entertainment biz from IBISWorld, a Santa Monica-based publisher of business whitepapers.
The U.S. retail porn biz saw 2012 annual revenue of $8-13 billion, while the online adult industry cashed in $3 billion, FOX Business' Claman says, citing the IBISWorld report.
And U.S. annual revenue at brick-and-mortar adult stores reached $253.5 million in 2012, with profit reaching $23.3 million, Claman says. Sixty-seven percent of customers at those adult stores are women.
She also noted that more than 28,000 online surfers at any given moment are viewing porn.
