LOS ANGELES — XBIZ blog columnist Kim Airs, an industry veteran with more than 18 years, is featured on AOL.com’s Jobs section.
The article titled “Kim Airs: From Harvard University to Sex Toy Entrepreneur” by Claire Gordon profiles Airs’ journey from working as an assistant to an esteemed Harvard University administrator to her current role as a sex toy consultant, industry personality and sex educator. As the full-time assistant to an unnamed Harvard University administrator, Airs also served as the unofficial in-house sexual expert for Harvard’s administrative staff, the article reports.
“More timid co-workers would ask her to help them pick out their first vibrators, or suggest a porn movie to watch with their boyfriends. ‘Basically the same stuff I do now,’” Airs says.
In 1992, Airs opened the women’s boutique, Grand Opening, a few miles from Harvard. The store expanded from 225-square-feet to a 1,000-square-foot location that in 2004 brought in $1.6 million in revenue.
By 2006, Airs sold Grand Opening and moved to Los Angeles, where she’s worked for major manufacturers and in the home sex toy business.
“These days, Airs feels that she has the best of all worlds, writing reviews, speaking about sex toys, consulting for sex toy companies and advising doctors on how to treat conditions like vaginismus (a tensing of the vagina that makes penetration painful) and erectile dysfunction,” the article says. “Ultimately, Airs believes that her job is to help people have better, happier, and more fulfilled sexual lives.”
