DENVER — MileHighGayGuy.com was recently named Best Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) Blog in the 2012 Denver #WebAwards presented by Westword.
Candidates were nominated by Westword’s readership and winners were chosen by a panel of judges.
“MileHighGayGuy has been holding it down as the premier resource for LGBTQ information and events since 2007,” Westword said. “Once run solely by creator Drew Wilson, the Colorado-centric site has recently expanded, with a cadre of contributors who provide relevant political, social and entertaining content daily, with an inclusive mission and a stellar viewpoint.”
The viewpoint MileHighGayGuy represents is that of a community that has seen itself transformed over the past two decades. Once known as “The Hate State” after the passage of 1992’s anti-gay Amendment 2, Colorado has made strides to become one of the most progressive states in the country in terms of LGBTQ rights and equality.
Home to one of the country’s oldest and largest Gay Pride events (Denver PrideFest), Colorado offers a collection of laws (TheRightsFive.com) that protect and enrich the lives of LGBTQ people and recently made national headlines with the selection of Rep. Mark Ferrandino as the first openly gay Speaker of the House in the Colorado State Legislature.
“I’m deeply honored to be recognized in this way and proud to have been a part of a strong LGBTQ community that has grown and accomplished so much over the years,” MileHighGayGuy's Drew Wilson said. “I am fortunate and grateful to be able to work in and for the community that I love and doing the work I’m passionate about. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.”
MileHighGayGuy.com has been featured in Instinct magazine, the Denver Post and various other websites.
