NEW DELHI — Adult star Sunny Leone’s Indian fame ticked up again as both Google and Yahoo ranked her as one of the country’s most searched celebrities.
Leone came out on top in Google's annual Zeitgeist list as the most searched personality in India this year. She also ranked 4th in the overall list of top searches in the country.
Google's listing ranks “the searches that had the highest amount of traffic over a sustained period of time in 2012 as compared to 2011.”
The Indo-Canadian star was also named Yahoo’s Year in Review 2012 most searched Indian celebrity online.
Yahoo said in a statement, “YIR combines search trends with the editorial selection of what users read, recommended and shared most on the Yahoo network in India during 2012. It offers a glimpse into the social trends, compelling newsmakers and top stories of 2012.”
According to the Hindustan Times, Leone bested some of Bollywood's leading ladies, thanks to her controversial entry into Bollywood with her reality TV show appearance on “Big Boss 5,” and her mainstream feature film debut in filmmaker Mahesh Poojah Bhatt’s “Jism 2.”
Leone also ranked ahead of other Indian adult favorites including porn star Poonam Pandey and Playboy’s first-ever Indian model Sherlyn Chopra.
