Jake Malone Signs with Evil Angel

VAN NUYS, Calif. — Jake Malone will release his brand of gonzo titles through John Stagliano’s Evil Angel, which signed the veteran director to an exclusive distribution deal.

While Malone will retain ownership of his product — a standard feature of Evil Angel deals — the decision to sign with the company and produce one title per month made good artistic sense, according to Malone.

“I feel like being a part of Evil Angel is the best opportunity in the world for a guy like me,” Malone told XBIZ. “The Evil Angel brand has a real cache, and John is a real pornographer. Working with Evil Angel lets me control what my brand is about.”

The decision to ink Malone to an exclusive deal was a matter of taste for Stagliano, who praised Malone’s unique style, which he sees as a complement to Evil Angel’s arsenal of directors.

“Jake Malone is the most underrated director in porn today,” Stagliano said. “I’m really happy to have Manuel Ferrara and Jake back together. They have done incredible work for each other. Jake uses props, wardrobe, personality and rough sex as well as anyone I’ve ever seen.”

In keeping with his rough, gonzo image, Malone plans to continue shooting in standard format with his Sony VX2100 camera, which he calls the industry standard.

“It’s just more appropriate to shoot gonzo in a standard format,” Malone said. “The movies still look great, but they have that gritty feel. High-definition is great for some kinds of directors, but right now I think gonzo in hi-def is a gimmick.”

Malone added that he had experimented with hi-def cameras, finding them uncomfortable to shoot with.

Malone joins a roster of Evil Angel directors that includes Stagliano, Ferrara, Joey Silvera, John Leslie, Belladonna, Justin Slayer, Rocco Siffredi, Christoph Clark, Jonni Darkko, Nacho Vidal, Erik Everhard and Harmony.

Malone’s addition to Evil Angel promises a long-lasting and fruitful relationship, Evil Angel Public Relations Director Karen Stagliano said.

“Jake is one of the most creatively perverted people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting,” she said. “I can’t have a single conversation with him without hearing about a new idea he has that he wants to direct. I can’t wait to be around that kind of energy on a daily basis.”
