PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Sex educator Megan Andelloux's Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health has announced it will be screening portions of "Kelly Shibari is Overloaded" followed by a Q&A session with director/producer/performer Kelly Shibari this Friday evening.
Shibari will be attending the screening following a successful weekend at the Exxxotica convention in New Jersey and a week of various radio interviews and appearances in New York.
"I was thrilled to hear that the CSPH was doing a screening of my film," said Shibari, whose film has been touted as quite possibly the first "feminist bukkake" film and a first for the BBW genre. "I"m excited to meet and hear from the audience and share my experiences with them!"
The CSPH, located in the Grant Building at 250 Main Street, Pawtucket, R.I., is a non-profit organization that emphasizes sex-positive teachings and boasts an extensive library and resources, from the Kinsey Reports and sexual education curricula to popular sexuality books from the 1920s to the present. The Q&A will feature not just the film, but also Shibari's experience in the industry as well as the industry's beauty standards, with a focus on bodies, race and vulvas.
"We think it's critical to analyze pornography, just as we analyze other films and media, in order to better understand how they shape our sexuality and perceptions, especially around race and body image," said Aida Manduley, programming and development director for the CSPH. "These discussions shouldn't be limited to academic classroom discussions or our inner monologues, and that's why the CSPH is excited to bring in Kelly Shibari. We feel Kelly can provide an on-the-ground perspective on these issues and foster more dialogue in our community."
CSPH founder and director Andelloux is a sought-after sexuality consultant for local and national media, lectures internationally at colleges and universities including such institutions as Brown, Yale, and Harvard, medical schools and sexuality conferences on issues surrounding sexual politics, sexual health, politics, and erotic justice. She is listed on Wikipedia as an American feminist, writer and sex educator.
"Porn Night Special: Screening and Q&A with Kelly Shibari" will start at the CSPH at 6:30 p.m. EST on Friday, and is open to all genders 18 years and older. Copies of "Kelly Shibari is Overloaded" will also be available for sale at a discounted price to those who attend.
