Measure B Debated on 'Which Way, L.A.?'

LOS ANGELES — James Lee and Michael Weinstein faced off last night in a contentious debate over Measure B on KCRW's "Which Way, L.A.?"

Lee, who leads communications for No on Measure B, and Weinstein, the president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which has sponsored the Los Angeles County measure on the Nov. 6 general election ballot, were joined by two adult performers, Derrick Burts and Rebecca Bardoux, who offered opposing views on the ballot measure.

The issue of credibility over stats during the debate was brought up over and over again, and even the credibility of Burts, an HIV-infected former gay porn performer who has taken the side of Measure B proponents, was queried.

"Which Way, L.A.?" host Warren Olney asked Burts over whether he actually contracted HIV on a porn set, as he claims.

"The porn industry would like you to believe I contracted someplace else, because obviously they don't like to blame for anything," he said.

Bardoux, the veteran porn star, told Olney that the reason she's against Measure B is that "it is our freedom of choice to choose if we want to use condom or not."

"We are in a competitive market all over the world, and [Measure B] would cause a lot of problems ... job losses.

Last night's "Which Way, L.A.?" episode on whether Los Angeles County should require condoms for porn can be heard here.
