LOS ANGELES — Fred Willard did not experience a happy ending on July 18 when he was arrested for allegedly masturbating to X-rated fare at the Tiki Theater in Hollywood. What's worse, the 72-year-old comedic actor says the movie playing was "lousy."
Willard, who will not serve jail time for his arrest if he enrolls in and completes a pre-filing diversion program by year's end, took to Twitter to ask fans to watch his new ABC show "Trust Us With Your Life" and to tease a forthcoming explanation of that fateful evening's events.
He tweeted, "Wait til u hear my version; much more PG. & my review, lousy film, but theater would make a terrific racquetball court. Full story 2 follow."
Willard has yet to name the adult film he was watching, but the three features on loop that day included the Zero Tolerance spoof "Official Client List Parody," Combat Zone's "Relax, He's My Stepdad 2" and Evil Angel's Nacho Vidal-directed gonzo "Follow Me."
Support for Willard has remained unfaltering. Gamelink.com has offered the veteran actor free VOD minutes and a complimentary masturbator, while Larry Flynt granted him a free subscription to Hustler.com if he so desired.
Among Willard's many acting credits are roles in "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy," "Best in Show," "This Is Spinal Tap," "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me," "American Wedding," "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" and "Wall-E."
Willard's next project is rumored to be Rampage Entertainment's upcoming rom-com "The Yank."
