MediaKey Announces SMS Billing Option

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Allowing users to anonymously pay for adult content via their cellphone is the “next big step” in the billing industry, believes MediaKey. To that end, the company has retained mobile billing specialists Adult Mobile Solutions to provide its customers with an SMS billing option.

Based on the requests of its clients, MediaKey decided to implement a mobile billing option in addition to traditional credit card payments. The company believes that SMS billing is just catching on in the U.S., so it’s slowly becoming a convenient payment option for companies looking for an efficient on-the-go payment solution.

“SMS billing has been around for a number of years in Europe and continues to be hugely successful,” Michael Whelan, director of Adult Mobile Solutions, said. “In our experience it’s a lot easier to convince surfers to use their cell phones to pay for adult content than their credit cards. Content providers offering premium and exclusive content consider SMS billing a good fit, especially for pay-per-view content.”

MediaKey is a multinational company that is a licensed Microsoft Windows Media digital rights management solution and service provider. Clients rely on the company to protect its content and prevent against unintended sharing and illegal copying. Adult Mobile Solutions is the adult division of txtNation, which operates an online commerce-billing platform.

“MediaKey’s primary role is to provide rock-solid content protection but in effect, our fast-growing palette of integrated billing options has stepped up the interest for our solutions,” Leon Standly, MediaKey CEO, said. “We provide reliable integrations to the world’s leading billing providers as an integral part of MediaKey DRM solution.”
