LONDON — Johnny Anglais, the former East London high school teacher reprimanded by the General Teaching Council in 2011 for his work as an escort, stripper and adult performer, is one of the 16 new "housemates" featured on Britain's long-running reality series "Big Brother."
Anglais joins a cast that includes a former Playboy bunny, a transgendered individual, a former Los Angeles gangbanger-turned-counselor, a chef, a male fashion model, and an aspiring DJ who also happens to be a self-professed "cougar."
Anglais — real name Benedict Garrett — served as the head of personal, social, and health education at Beal High School in Ilford from 2008 up until 2011, when students exposed the moonlighting professor’s clandestine career shortly after viewing him in a trailer for a pornographic film.
The General Teaching Council found Anglaisguilty of unprofessional conduct and demanded that he abandon his X-rated ventures if he was to continue teaching. Anglais refused and and went on to become an activist for sex worker rights and sexual education.
"Big Brother" is a reality-competition program in which a group of people are isolated from the outside world by being made to live together in a house rigged with cameras that document their behavior and interactions with one another — often to outrageous results.
