PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — .XXX operator ICM Registry is hosting a webinar tomorrow to explain the impact new generic top-level domains will have on trademarks.
Trademark holders will face with new online properties that may pose new threats to their brands as ICANN's new generic top-level domain program come into play. ICANN is planning a "reveal day" for the gTLDs on June 13.
With the webinar, titled "IP Protection: Porn, Brands and the Internet — The Impact of New Web Properties on Trademarks and Name Brands," participants —attorneys Kristine Dorrain of the National Arbitration Forum and Robert Kimmer of Rader, Fishman & Grauer, as well as ICM general counsel Sheri Falco and ICM Chief Operating Officer Tony Farrow — will discuss how to safeguard against mis-use and what companies can do if they find their brand is being used by someone else in the .XXX domain.
ICM Registry's Stuart Lawley told XBIZ that the session is "an informational webinar purely to keep everyone up to date with the changing TLD landscape and all of the policies and challenge mechanisms provided for brandholders. protection within .XXX."
ICM Registry has applied for three gTLDs — .sex, .porn and .adult — so far.
