Playboy Marilyn Monroe Film Festival Starts Today

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.  — Playboy’s long time love affair with Marilyn Monroe continues today on her birthday, with a film festival honoring the star who died 50 years ago this summer.

The company is hosting the weeklong event at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood that kicks off with the classic “Some Like It Hot,” replete with red carpet.

Following the signature Monroe comedy will be “No Business Like Show Business, “How to Marry a Millionaire,” The Seven Year Itch,” Bus Stop,” The Misfits,” and “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.”

A different movie featuring the iconic star will be screened each night ending June 7.

Also on tap is a Marilyn Look-A-Like Contest that will begin at 5 p.m. on opening night where the first 200 look-alikes who register at the theater will be admitted free.

An opening night after party will take place at Hemingway’s Lounge in Hollywood.

According to Radar Online, Monroe’s footprints are a favorite tourist spot in Los Angeles and she once said the theatre was the place she went for inspiration.

Tickets are $10 for opening night and $5 for each movie thereafter. A festival pass is available for $30 that’s good for any film.

The theatre said 10 percent of each festival pass will be donated to Monroe’s Hollygrove orphanage.
