NOVA SCOTIA, Canada — Porn has been cut off to inmates at a Nova Scotia prison.
Public Safety Minister Vic Toews shut down the cable channels that were allowing about 350 inmates at the minimum security Springhill Institution to watch porn on prison TVs.
“I recently discovered that some inmates had access to porn in prison on their TV’s. I have put an end to this unacceptable practice,” Toews wrote on his Twitter account Wednesday morning.
The Public Safety office didn't reveal the offending channels, or just what programs were pulled, but it did confirm that they were shut off.
The Canadian prison system considers porn as contraband.
Toews’s get tough measure dovetailed with an overall plan to cut prison expenses that includes charging inmates for their room, board and phone calls that the official said will save $10 million each year.
