NEW YORK — Random House has released an audiobook version of E.L. James’ “Fifty Shades of Grey,” the first book in a sexually-explicit, BDSM romance trilogy that currently sits atop of the New York Times Best Sellers List (Combined Print & E-Book Fiction).
Dubbed "Mommy Porn" for its appeal to women over 30, “Fifty Shades of Grey’s” phenomenal success is comparable to that of Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code" and Stieg Larsson’s “Millennium” trilogy. A film adaptation is already in development at Universal Pictures and Focus Features.
The book’s plot revolves around the kink-fueled love affair that develops between 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and his submissive conquest, a 22-year-old college virgin named Anastasia Steele.
The ups-and-downs of their relationship is further explored in the sequels "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed."
EntertainmentWeekly.com has an exclusive nine-minute clip from the audiobook on its site. The novel is narrated by actress Becca Battoe (“Walk a Mile in My Pradas”). To have a listen, go here.
