Keeping with Pure Play’s policy of only adding brands that don’t compete with any of its existing lines, Mr. X is the first and only Asian-themed brand in Pure Play’s lineup.
Pure Play CEO Richard Arnold told XBIZ that the deal has been in the works for months, since Pure Play sales manager Craig Johns met Mr. X owner Peter Frost at the Adult Entertainment Expo in January.
“Peter had released 10 or 11 titles on DVD but had some negative experiences,” Arnold said. “That’s part of the reason this deal took so long to put together. He was a little gun-shy.”
Arnold said he also had some reservations about picking up lines produced in Asia.
“We wanted to be careful about Asian content because of issues with IDs,” he said. “A lot of times, these girls can look underage. But Peter has a different take on it [the Asian genre].”
That “different take” could best be described as a “reality porn adventure” — an adult travelogue mixing hardcore sex with often-outrageous behind-the-scenes footage.
“You will not see fake sets in these videos,” Frost said. “They are shot in beautiful locations, and everything is authentic.”
Frost stumbled into adult entertainment through surfing. He and his video crew had been filming surfing excursions around the world and decided to use their video know-how to produce adult videos in some of the countries they visited. Frost used the content to create AsiaBootleg.com. Mr. X eventually added sites such as BabesinThailand.com and LatinBootleg.com.
Frost, like Arnold, said he believes Mr. X’s product fits well with Pure Play’s other clients.
“Our movies are complementary to the current lines they distribute,” Frost said. “Mr. X Productions fills a very large void. Asian movies are in very high demand, and we are happy to be the company to provide Asian lines for [Pure Play].”
