NEW YORK — Forbes.com today published a story that interviews scores of porn experts on the mandatory condom issue that is now facing studios that shoot in the city of Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles City Council and its mayor recently approved a new ordinance requiring that all adult film actors wear condoms when filming within city limits.
Besides Steve Hirsch, founder and co-chairman of Vivid Entertainment and Bob Christian of Adam & Eve, Forbes went on to interview porn star Stoya; Satine Phoenix, a retired porn star and artist; Jane Blow, sexpert and “smut peddler”; porn star James Deen; and Tracy Clark-Flory, Salon sex and relationships staff writer.
Forbes also interviewed Eric Spitznagel, co-author of Ron Jeremy: The Hardest (Working Man) in Show Business"; porn star Lorelei Lee; director Max Hardcore; former gay adult star Will Clark; porn star Lily Cade; and Kayt Sukel, author of "Dirty Minds: How Our Brains Influence Love, Sex and Relationships."
The story begins with Hirsch's take on the new ordinance ("It’s more of a nuisance than anything else,” Hirsch said) and moves along to a retired porn star's take ("It’s about time they passed this law," Phoenix said).
Clark-Flory, the Salon sex and relationships staff writer, took a logical supply-and-demand take: "This doesn’t change the fact that there is a huge viewer demand for condomless porn. Since the new law is tied to city permits, I suspect that many shoots will simply move outside of L.A. to meet that demand."
