SAN FRANCISCO — More cyberlockers are either ending affiliate programs or calling it quits in the U.S. altogether in wake of the Justice Department's bust of Megaupload.com.
Following the takedown of Megaupload for alleged criminal copyright infringement violations, leading players FileSonic and Fileserve disabled sharing functionality and ended their affiliate programs.
Others have followed suit, including:
- X7.to, which shut down;
- VideoBB, VideoZer, FileJungle, UploadStation and FilePost all reportedly closed their affiliate and reward programs and are mass deleting accounts and files;
- Uploaded.to banned all U.S. IP addresses to its service to distance itself from U.S. jurisdiction, saying, "Our service is currently unavailable in your country. Sorry about that"; and,
- 4Shared, which canceled its affiliate program.
