Taormino had taken five years off from working directly in the adult industry while penning a sex column for the Village Voice but returned to the industry last year with the release of “House of Ass” on her own Smart Ass Productions, distributed by Adam & Eve.
She also is the author of “The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women,” “Down and Dirty Sex Secrets” and “True Lust: Adventures in Sex, Porn and Perversion.
Vivid-Ed will release four titles over the next 12 months. Toarmino will direct the first two releases and hire additional directors for future titles from the imprint.
“I plan to combine education and information with entertainment and arousal,” she said. “It’s all about teaching people techniques and inspiring them to want to practice what they learned right away.”
Taormino said the Vivid-Ed series will appeal to couples looking to improve their sex lives and be more adventurous. The films will feature “attractive, intelligent real-life people as well as articulate, exemplary adult performers.”
“With Vivid-Ed we have a chance to inform, educate and get someone off simultaneously,” she explained. “This definitely will not be your father’s sex-ed tape.”
Taormino added that the inspiration for the Vivid-Ed project came from sex workshops she has been teaching for the past eight years at stores such as Good Vibrations and Babeland as well as at New York City’s Learning Annex. The movies will cover subjects such as safer sex, g-spot stimulation, erotic role-playing, sex toys and anal pleasure.
Her other project, a reality series, is an outgrowth of her Smart Ass Productions, which focuses on all-sex features with elements that appeal to women and couples.
“The idea is to create an open, sexually-charged, intimate space where performers can speak their minds, get to know each other, viewers can get to know the performers, and real chemistry can develop and be captured on film,” Taormino said.
The series begins production in May and also will see four titles released within the space of a year.
