When the producers sent out demos of the theme song for “Britney Rears 1” in 2005, they hit pay dirt. The song got airplay on more than 100 stations nationwide, including Howard Stern’s show. Even more important was the residual effect, as DJs and listeners couldn’t stop talking about how bad the song was.
The song’s silly lyrics, cheesy pop hooks and off-key singing made it difficult to forget. When Big Richard Black and Jeff Mullen sat down to write the follow up, they made sure it was equally catchy and equally campy.
“You won’t be able to get the damn song out of your head after you hear it a couple of times,” Scott David, co-producer of “Britney Rears 2: I Wanna Get Laid,” said.
The new theme song will be the focal point of a radio blitz that will see “Britney Rears 2” packages being sent to more than 400 radio stations across the country. The packages will contain multiple airplay-friendly versions of the song along with a Hollywood-style gift box of Britney Rears-related items, including adults-only products for radio personnel to enjoy.
“Once we get [the song] played, even if only a part of it as a novelty song, that usually opens up conversation about Britney Rears,” Mullen, whose All Media Play is marketing the DVD with Hustler, said. “Before you know it, we get a request for Britney to come to town and do a signing along with a radio interview.
“We have no illusions of getting this new Britney track to the top of the Billboard charts, however we are very serious about getting it played on radio stations across America,” Mullen added, “and the best way to do that is by getting it into the hands of program directors and DJs.”
Released on Larry Flynt Production's VCA label, “Britney Rears 1” was LFP’s bestselling DVD in 2005, outselling all other Hustler Video and VCA titles, and Mullen is hoping the promotional formula works again.
“Britney Rears 2: I Wanna Get Laid” features Britney Rears, Hillary Scott, Eva Angelina, Jenaveve Jolie, Sunny Lane, Nyomi Marcela, Shy Love, Nikki Hilton, Nadia Styles and Kapri Styles. The movie arrives in stores April 11.
