TOKYO — A recent report shows that Asia leads the way when it comes to having the fastest Internet connections, but the region also has the highest attack traffic.
According to a report released this week by Internet content delivery specialist Akamai, the Asia-Pacific and Oceania region generated 47 percent of all malicious traffic as opposed to Europe, which accounted for 30 percent of attack traffic.
The Americas and Africa contributed 20 percent and 3 percent, ZDNet.com reported.
The firm based its study on more than 604 million unique Internet Protocol addresses from 238 countries and regions.
Five of the top 10 economies for attack traffic were from the region. Taiwan lead the way globally, with one in 10 attacks originating from the North Asian market. Myanmar came in second with 9 percent.
The U.S. generated 8 percent of all attack traffic.
