COPENHAGEN — Fire destroyed the KB-Hallen venue and forced the cancellation of the annual Sex and Erotic Exhibition ("Erotic World Messe") that was to open in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen today.
Acccording to reports, the five-day sex fair was to showcase adult movies, magazines and sex toys.
A local source told XBIZ that adult dealers who had set up their booths in the historical arena lost small fortunes.
The fire reportedly was triggered by overheated faulty halogen light bulbs placed near cardboard boxes.
KB-Hallen is legendary in the history of adult, having hosted the world's first adult entertainment expo in October 1969 portrayed in Alex de Renzy's 1970 theatrical documentary feature "Pornography in Denmark: A New Approach.”
Built in 1938, the venue held concerts and sporting events including concerts by Duke Ellington, Josephine Baker, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd.
