Cinemax Slips Porn Into Apple App Store

NEW YORK — Despite its strict App Store anti-porn policy, Apple has allowed cable TV network Cinemax to slip in its app that contains softcore porn.

According to reports, the programming giant has several hours of adult content on its free Max Go iPad app available to subscribers via a “Max After Dark” tab.

The app is available to iPad and iPhone users and comes with a warning that states it includes "frequent/intense sexual content or nudity."

It also has parental controls and states that viewers must be at least 17 years old to download.

Although apps for other networks like HBO do allow full-frontal nudity and simulated sex in some script-driven shows like “True Blood” and “Game of Thrones,” the Cinemax lineup provides more blatant T&A fair including "Hotel Erotica," “Lust at First Bite,” “The Hills Have Thighs," “Bikini Frankenstein” and more.

Industry watchers are asking how Cinemax got its native app past Apple’s hard line policy considering for example that it blocked Playboy from including a nude version of its app in its App Store, prompting the adult company to develop a browser-based app.

Apple's no-porn muscle was also flexed last March when it slapped adult app provider Mikandi with a trademark cease and desist letter for using the term “app store,” forcing Mikandi to change the name of its store to "Mikandi App Market."
