HOUSTON — Dennis Cook, a veteran adult retailer who founded the Eros1207 stores in Texas, has died of cancer. He was 71.
Cook was born and raised in South Houston and had been battling cancer for several years before passing away on July 10. He was president of the Eros1207 stores in Houston and Freeport, Texas, opening his first store in October 1994.
"Mr. Cook was a strong supporter of the adult industry and had to fight City Hall in order to keep his stores open," said Andrea Brown, director of daily operations for Eros1207. "Mr. Cook gave back to his community by donating to local charities not only in Houston but also in Freeport as well."
This year Cook oversaw major renovations to his flagship store on Spencer Hwy. in South Houston, making a wide range of improvements that included adding ceramic tile floors and a crystal chandelier above the main entrance. The store celebrated its grand re-opening on May 14, toasting its reputation as the 'Nordstrom’s' of adult boutiques' in the area.
"At the unveiling of the main store remodel industry leaders who attended were not ready for what they saw," Brown said. "... Before Mr. Brown's untimely passing plans were in the works to open another store. Mr. Cook’s dream will go on. The staff and management will continue his dream and create the best adult shopping experience for all our customers."
Brown added, "He was a great boss and lots of fun to work with."
