LOS ANGELES — Kelly Holland of Penthouse on July 23 will host her second annual Vice is Nice charity event that will benefit two San Fernando Valley animal rescues.
The event at Holland’s ranch in Chatsworth will feature a poker tournament and Monte Carlo Night complete with casino games, live music, food and even tarot card readings. Festivities start at 6:30 p.m. and continue until midnight, with all proceeds going to Valley Cats, Inc. and Life 4 Paws.
“These are two incredible rescue organizations that I’ve volunteered for during the past five years,” Holland told XBIZ. “Valley Cat does amazing work. They do adoptions at Petsmart out of Fallbrook Mall and they do a lot of outside work. They have a great program called Compassionate Care.”
Holland explained that Compassionate Care involves Valley Cat helping people pay their veterinarian bills when they can’t otherwise afford them, often negotiating with vets for lower rates. Valley Cat also runs an effective Trap, Neuter and Release (TNR) program for feral cats.
Meanwhile Life 4 Paws is one of the most successful dog rescues in the city of L.A., Holland said.
“They even make calls for other rescues to place dogs,” she said, noting that Life 4 Paws regularly sends dogs to a sister rescue organization in Portland, Ore., for care and placement.
“They also do an adoption out here out of Petsmart in Fallbrook Mall. Right now they are overtaxed, just like all the rescues and shelters are right now because the economy is bad and people are losing their homes. And when they lose their homes they can’t always take the pets with them.
“They have more requests than they can meet, but they always do everything they can.”
More than 500 people attended the inaugural Vice is Nice event which raised more than $12K. This year, thanks to more than a dozen adult industry sponsors already signed on, that amount already has been exceeded, Holland said.
The organizer is expecting the turnout for the upcoming event to be well over 1,000, including numerous members of local pet organizations and a mix of civilians and adult industry professionals.
Those interested in attending can register in advance at Life4Paws.org and receive discounted admission and other perks such as free drink tickets and gambling chips.
Holland said that several adult personalities have been heavily involved in rescuing animals, namely stars such as Julia Ann, Dyanna Lauren and Monique DeMoan. The veteran producer/director told XBIZ that her involvement in Pets for Pets, an organization that was founded by the late performer Leslie Glass, also inspired her to ultimately create the Vice Is Nice event.
“It seems like a lot of people in this business have supported animal rescues,” Holland said. “I thought at some point it would be good to get this industry involved in something like this, and plus, I always like to throw a party.”
Attendees on July 23 will have options, as Holland has arranged for blackjack, roulette, craps, strolling magicians, a piano player, a DJ and a dance floor. She said that director Erica McLean would be doing tarot card readings for those who get to the party early and sign up.
“There will be Penthouse Pets and a lot of girls from the industry there,” Holland continued. “We will have a booth set up where if you want your picture taken with the star, you can print it out on the spot and she can autograph it.”
