LOS ANGELES — Adultcon organizers have pulled the plug on two of its shows that were slated to be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center next year.
The venue has been home to Adultcon since 2004, attracting thousands of visitors to the event, but two other porn shows, Exxxotica and Everything to Do With Sex, have moved in securing spots at the venue scheduled within weeks of Adultcon.
Adultcon’s Renaud West declined to discuss the cancellations to XBIZ at press time, but an LA Times article said that the reason Adultcon was cancelled was because too many adult trade shows at the same venue would cause confusion among attendees.
“It’s confusing for the public and it’s bad for business,” West said.
West said he asked that no other adult shows are put on the schedule within three months of Adultcon because the other expos would diminish show attendance.
But, Convention Center officials say there’s enough demand for adult entertainment to draw crowds for all the shows.
J Handy, director of Victory Tradeshow Management, which produces Exxxotica, said he brought the show to Los Angeles to fill the void left by Erotica LA, which was the biggest adult trade show in the city until its demise in 2009.
Handy said he believes Adultcon has tried to keep Exxxotica out of Los Angeles because it fears competition.
Adultcon’s next show is scheduled for July 29-31 and Exxxotica will take place Aug. 26-28.
