Waat Media Acquires Charismatix

SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. – Wireless content provider Waat Media has penned an acquisition deal with Charismatix Ltd., a mainstream European game developer that specializes in multimedia Java games for mobile devices.

Düsseldorf, Germany-based Charismatix brings many new elements to Waat’s strong hold on the mobile space, including distribution deals with game makers in Asia, Europe and the U.S., in addition to a porting platform known as Development-Framework, which supports J2ME, DoJa and BREW handsets.

Waat is more immediately known to the adult industry for its “late night content,” which features content from Vivid, Playboy, Digital Playground and Girls Gone Wild.

News of the partnership was announced by Waat at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona. Company President Ian Aaron was not available for comment, but a Waat representative told XBiz that the deal is effective immediately and is the first game developer Waat has so far partnered with.

Waat currently has agreements with 60 mobile operators for the distribution of images, video and mobile TV.

Content from Charismatix is not adult-oriented but will complement Waat’s strategy of branching out into the mainstream through Charismatix’s video applications and multi-player 3D games.

“It’s another step in that direction,” the representative told XBiz.

Aaron said in an official statement that the acquisition of Charismatix is part of a strategic move that over time will include applications such as mobile web dating and video chat, a portfolio of branded poker and casino games and other late night entertainment programming.
