Wicked President Steve Orenstein said the deal includes Wicked’s sole distribution rights to the Playgirl TV line over the next five years.
“The Playgirl TV brand is very strong in the marketplace, and we're happy to work with them in extending that brand to DVD,” Orenstein said.
Launched in May 2004, Playgirl TV was the first major push by a company to create an adult channel exclusively for women. The network touts itself as the place to find erotic sex and candid sexual advice that was “previously reserved for men only.”
“Men have a huge selection of sexually oriented programming on television but women have been largely ignored,” said Kelly Holland, a Playgirl TV spokeswoman.
Mark Graff, president of Playgirl TV, said several uncut Playgirl TV productions would be marketed on DVD with the Wicked deal, initially with one title released each month.
“Wicked represents the very best in professionalism, quality content and customer support and service, and we are thrilled to be associated with Steve Orenstein and the Wicked team,” Graff said.
“Private Pleasures” is scheduled to hit shelves on Feb. 8. The second title, “Burning Lust,” is scheduled for March 22.
