BARCELONA — Private Media Group today announced a new web-based subscription VOD service with Scandinavian provider Voddler Group AB.
Private said that in addition to its current Pay-VOD service, the new subscription model enables users to access unlimited hours of entertainment using all Internet-connected devices.
In connection with the launch, the company is increasing its library of content on Voddler with more than 20 new titles every month that will total over 150 new titles by end of 2011.
The enhanced library includes Private’s classic titles as well as gay content.
Private CEO Berth Milton said, “Entering this next phase of our relationship with the leading VOD service provider in Scandinavia underscores the strength of our brand and offering. Private’s expansive library of high-quality content combined with Voddler’s platform and exponentially growing user base marks a new era in how content is consumed moving forward.”
He added, “As we continue to expand our digital distribution strategy for consumer consumption across multiple screens, we expect Voddler to significantly add to revenues in 2011.”
In 2010, the two companies announced a multi-year agreement for the exclusive delivery of adult content to Voddler. Leveraging Voddler’s VOD distribution platform that offers both free ad-based and pay-per-view solutions, Private said it now has complete coverage and top positioning throughout the Scandinavian online VOD market.
With the Private agreement, Voddler launched an extended content filter function to help its customers manage access to content. The filter function allows users to limit their exposure to specific titles and lets families of varying ages share login information.
Private said that Voddler has more than 1 million registered users in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark who in 2010 have watched more than 5 million films from a catalog of close to 4,000 titles from the world’s leading entertainment companies and film studios.
In February 2011, Voddler, raised $8 million in funding in a round led by Nokia’s venture capital arm Nokia Growth Partners and has recently announced that it is expanding its service to Spain, with a planned launch date in the third quarter of 2011.
