WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — LFP founder Larry Flynt and professor David Eisenbach will discuss and sign their new book, "One Nation Under Sex: How the Private Lives of Presidents, First Ladies and Their Lovers Changed the Course of American History," this evening at Book Soup on the Sunset Strip.
Flynt and Eisenbach, a professor of American political history at Columbia University, argue in the book that sex scandals have influenced American history since the beginning of the nation.
The co-authors in the well-sourced book say that Benjamin Franklin's womanizing ways helped win him favor with the French and gain the country's support during the Revolutionary War.
They also claim that James Buchanan's same-sex relationship with a slave owner might have influenced his secessionist support on the brink of the Civil War and discuss Thomas Jefferson's relationship with a 14-year-old slave
Book Soup is located at 8818 W. Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood. The free event starts at 7 p.m.
