SAN FRANCISCO — Friday was a big day for porn BitTorrent claims, with three adult entertainment companies filing seven copyright infringement suits against 120 unnamed John Does.
The suits, all alleging their movies were traded on a BitTorrent network, were filed by Titan Media, Hard Drive Productions and Corbin Fisher in small defendant numbers, a new tactic by adult P2P litigators who have seen their subpoenas quashed in numerous federal district courthouses.
P2P litigators also are being more choosey where they file their cases; some are even forum shopping old porn BitTorrent cases in other federal districts within states.
In Friday's new porn BitTorrent suits:
- Hard Drive Productions alleges its "Amateur Allure" series was distributed over a network illegally. The suits — one targeting 46, the other 48 — were both filed at U.S. District Court in San Francisco;
- Titan Media filed one suit against alleged pirate, Anthony Uy, at federal court in San Francisco; and,
- Corbin Fisher filed four suits. Two suits, where the defendants were identified by "swarms" sharing hash codes, were filed at U.S. District Court in Las Vegas against 16 BitTorrent users. The other suits — one against three BitTorrent users, the other four — were filed at federal court in Milwaukee.
All of the suits seek court approval to identify the Does through subpoenas through their Internet service providers.
