Magna Publishing Acquires Blue Horizon Titles, Internet Rights

PARAMUS, N.J. — Swank magazine publisher Magna Publishing Group has acquired the print and Internet rights of long-time rival company Blue Horizon Media, Inc., publishers of High Society and other popular adult magazines and websites.

Magna owners told XBIZ it has secured the print rights to High Society, Cheri, Black Diamond, Finally Legal, Purely 18 and Playgirl magazines.

However, the Playgirl website and cable TV platform will continue to be run by its current operator, Trans Digital Media, LLC.

The High Society and Cheri websites will be relaunched and added to the Swank Dollars affiliate program.

A dollar amount for the deal was not disclosed.

The former Blue Horizon editorial staff will be retained by Magna and moved to its New Jersey headquarters.

The acquisition now strengthens Magna's position as the predominant publisher of hardcore newsstand “sophisticate” print magazines.

Magna has enjoyed an edge in the ever-dwindling print magazine business in recent years due to it owning of a printing company and progressive expansion into XXX online and DVD businesses.

The company publishes Swank, Fox, Velvet, Gallery, Gent, Genesis and the four titles acquired from Club Media in 2009 that include Club, Club International, Club Confidential and Best of Club. It also publishes Joanna Angel’s Burning Angel magazine.
