PHILADELPHIA — TLAgay has announced the winners of the 2011 TLAgay Adult Awards.
In its second year, the annual awards event was created to honor the best in gay adult movies, studios, talent, sex toys and more.
TLAgay’s in-house staff devised the categories, with the final list of nominees being determined by overall vote-getters in each category.
Voting was conducted online via the TLAgay.com website for the entire month of March and was open to both TLA’s customers and the public at large.
“From the day voting started, we all had a feeling in the office that it was going end up being even bigger than last year,” said Erik Schut, TLA’s managing director.
“The final tally this time around hit nearly 40,000 ballots cast and those were the real votes. That’s a huge increase from the nearly 30,000 that were cast last year.” Schut said.
“Clearly fans love being able to choose the winners, and to us at TLA their overwhelming response is nothing short of a positive shout-out to the entire industry.”
A new category was inaugurated this year — the TLA Choice Award — in which the TLAgay.com editorial staff bestows honors upon those that they feel deserve the recognition.
The downtown New York publication PAPER Magazine and its editorial director Mickey Boardman were declared the recipients of TLA Gay’s “Best Not-in-the-Biz Industry Supporter” award for its ongoing advocacy of the gay adult industry.
Upon being told about his wins, the Chi Chi LaRue said, “How exciting. Whether people admit it or not, awards are always an honor. For all the winners from C1R we're very honored and appreciative. Thanks to the TLA fans for loving this little movie and everything we do at C1R.com.”
Performer of the Year winner Brent Everett was grateful to TLAgay and his fans for the win.
“Obviously I wouldn't be here without you. You've been by my side watching me grow as a performer. I hope you keep supporting me and watching to see what comes next.”
“I’m kinda in shock right this second,” said Jeff from Str8Cam Lube, which nabbed Favorite Accessory/Sex Toy. “I originally made Str8Cam Lube just for me to use during my shows. [After making it available to purchase] I had no idea people would respond to it so well. I’m totally new to this, so this is amazing. Thanks to all the TLA fans who voted. You guys rock.”
Lucas Entertainment CEO Michael Lucas, who along with his creative director Mr. Pam got the nod for Director of the Year, said he is happy with the fan’s reactions.
“This has been one of [the company’s] best years to date in terms of our creative and commercial output and I’m extremely pleased that fans have reacted so well,” he said.
“Since joining our team, Mr. Pam has consistently topped her previous effort, and I’m happy she is getting recognized for it. I’d like to extend huge thanks to TLA and the fans who voted for us. The best is yet to come from Lucas Entertainment.”
