CHATSWORTH, Calif. — Girlfriends Films has donated $1,000 to Planned Parenthood on behalf of performer and director Melissa Monet.
Monet is the first performer selected by the studio in its new monthly format for the charity program. In March, dozens of performers throughout the industry submitted essays regarding their favorite charities.
“Melissa Monet is a talented performer and director with our company," said Moose, Girlfriends Films vice president.
"We’re pleased to kickoff our monthly charitable program by making a donation to Planned Parenthood in her honor. We hope her philanthropic spirit will inspire others throughout the adult industry.”
Each month, Girlfriends Films will select a performer from the entries and make a $1,000 donation in her name to the specified charity.
The only condition is performers must choose from one of the organizations receiving a “B+” rating or better by the American Institute of Philanthropy.
“The first time I walked into a Planned Parenthood facility as a young woman I was made to feel comfortable," Monet said.
"All my fears went right out the door as a kind woman spoke to me like an adult about my sexual well being. I knew if I was going to be sexually active, I needed to get the facts and they were explained to me — first clinically, then with brutal honesty. It set the tone for decisions I was going to make either way. It made me more aware and taught me the importance of safety."
