Private CEO Berth Milton Responds to Gigaom Interview

BARCELONA — Private Media CEO and chairman Berth Milton issued a response today on XBIZ.net to clarify any misconceptions that may have arisen out of a recent interview he did with Gigaom that said Private was giving away its content to attract advertisers.

The interview maintained that Private was adopting a new policy similar to the Groupon model where products are brokered through a middleman and offered to sites at a discount.

The idea was that free content would attract huge numbers of consumers and the taint of porn would be eliminated because mainstream advertisers would have no direct contact with Private.

But the XBIZ.net thread read: "As you know it is very easy to be misquoted or the message taken out of context in interviews especially interviews with mainstream press that do not necessarily understand our business. Our current business models with Private.com, GameLink.com and Maleflixxx.com will continue to operate as they always have.“

It went on to say, “If you open up the mind, the opportunity to address both profits and social conditions are limitless. It's a process of innovation.”

Milton said, "There has been a lot of talk and speculation on the affiliate boards surrounding the gigaom.com interview ‘Private wants to be the Groupon of Porn.’ This statement is to clarify some of the points being discussed on the boards .

He added, “The strategy laid out in the article will not affect our current online business model, this will be a new venture where a small amount of content will be given as a 'freemium' model to drive sales of discounted hard goods.”

Private’s CEO went on to say that times have changed and his company “Must expand our business models to stay competitive in the marketplace."
