Hong Kong fashion designer Pacino Wan, who was tapped to add his style to the iconic Playboy Bunny costume, has designed four Playboy bunny outfits.
Just one of the designs will be chosen and adapted by Playboy as the uniform for its cocktail waitresses.
Wan is the second designer in Playboy history to come up with a new look. The bunny's original design was thought up by founder Hugh Hefner. Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli threaded new outfits for the Playboy Club in Las Vegas for its opening in 2006.
Wan said he wanted the new outfits "to keep the elegance, charm and heritage in the design.”
“When you talk about a sexy Chinese lady, you think about the qi pao,” said Wan, referring to the cheongsam, the body-hugging one-piece Chinese dress for women.
So Wan incorporated the look of the cheongsam for the Chinese Playboy bunny costumes with ears, cuffs and cotton tail and added new elements, including a Mandarin collar, jade ornaments, Chinese fastenings, embroidery and red tassles. He also used Chinese silk, leather and stretch satin.
When it opens Saturday, visitors will enter the 12,000-square-foot club on the top floor of the Sands Macao Hotel. Macao, along with Hong Kong, is one of two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China.
