The company said the DVD/Blu-ray combo pack enables fans who don’t own a Blu-ray player to watch the film now on standard DVD, but can also use the Blu-ray version in the future.
One of the biggest drawbacks to buying Blu-ray movies now, according to the company, is their lack of portability.
“Since a Blu-ray disc will play only where you have a Blu-ray player, many people often can't watch their new movie in the bedroom, on a laptop, or in any other place where they only have a DVD player,” said Joone, founder and director of Digital Playground.
The company said the packaged combos shatter the relatively high cost of Blu-ray movies to the same price as normal DVDs and eliminates the risk of stocking Blu-ray titles for distributors and retailers.
"Digital Playground’s DVD/Blu-ray combo packs are the perfect way for consumers to future-proof their collections while still enjoying their favorite movies on their existing DVD players," Digital Playground CEO Samantha Lewis said.
"Love & Marriage" stars Kayden Kross and Manuel Ferrara.
Peggy Mac, Digital Playground’s vice president of sales, noted that it's simply looking to become "flexible to adapt to the changing habits" of the adult consumer and demand from distributors.
“Honestly, we love the idea of tossing a DVD in at little to no extra cost; there's hardly a better way to convince people to try Blu-ray discs than to include one with the purchase of their DVD,” she said.
"Blu-ray machines are just now becoming affordable here and not a lot of companies are prepared to invest additional money in the format because of the costs," said Steve McDermott, multimedia general manager of Adult World.
"Now we don’t have to worry with this brilliant idea from D.P. Our customers will now definitely be satisfied."
"Love & Marriage" ships Nov. 2.
