Brink and Vianna met in the main event of MMA Xplosion at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Brink's first pro fight since Aug. 20.
Vianna, a two-time world champion in Brazilian jiu-jitsu from Wanderlei Silva's Wand Fight Team, improved his record to 10-1-1, while Brink fell to 23-19-1 in his 12-year MMA career. The bout came to a controversial end when Brink got caught underneath the ropes while Vianna hit him with a flurry of punches. Brink implored referee Steve Mazzagotti to reset the fight in the center of the ring — a routine practice when fighters are grappling too close to the edge of the canvas — but instead Mazzagotti waved the bout off, ruling it a TKO.
Brink protested the decision to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which had sanctioned the card.
"After viewing the official video, the promoter brought it up to the Commission that Vitor Vianna and I were outside the ropes on the ground and Vianna was striking me from outside the ropes and that I was in no apparent danger of being stopped when I made verbal gestures to referee Steve Mazzagotti," Brink said. "They considered my protest that I was merely requesting the referee to stand us up and or free us from the ropes when Mazzagotti called the fight. My fight was ruled a TKO originally and was later ruled a referee stoppage."
Brink continued, "A TKO required me to vacate training for 21 days and to be subject to a 30-day suspension from competition. Now that it was called a referee stoppage I can resume training immediately and compete as soon as the opportunity presents itself.
"The promoter has indicated that he will not hold the loss against me when considering me for further matches. In fact he plans on booking me a fight against B.J. Lacy at [205 pounds] in an upcoming show."
The Huntington Beach, Calif., native also planned to return to doing porn scenes, continuing to work for Lethal Hardcore, PornPros.com, Antigua Pictures and The Erotic Network. He has performed in more than 700 scenes since his debut in 2002. Antigua, Lethal Hardcore and CassandraCruz.com were among his sponsors for the fight.
Brink became notorious on a national level last year when he and his wife were profiled on an episode of A&E’s Emmy-winning TV show “Intervention.” The series chronicles the plight of individuals whose dependence on drugs and alcohol has brought them to a point of personal crisis. The episode involving Brink's substance abuse led to an intervention in December 2008.
Saturday's contest was shown live on internet pay-per-view at TDSN.tv.
