The 5-foot-11 Vianna is a highly regarded Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt who trains out of UFC star Wanderlei Silva's camp — the Wand Fight Team. He enters the fight with Brink on a two-bout win streak with an overall record of 9-1-1.
"This one is a big deal," said the 35-year-old Brink, who has been a professional fighter for the past 12 years and an adult performer for the past eight. "MMA Xplosion and Team Wand is getting a solid Aaron Brink. I'm excited."
Brink and Vianna will meet at a catch weight of 195 pounds. Originally, they had signed to compete at the middleweight limit of 185. But Brink, who has spent nearly his whole career in the heavyweight division (206 and above), realized earlier this week that making 185 for the first time would have been hazardous to his health.
"After deliberating with the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Vitor Vianna, Wanderlei Silva and my head trainer Jeff Clark, the promoter of MMA Xplosion granted my request to weigh in at a catch weight of 195," Brink said. "My original request was to compete at the 205-pound weight class after discovering I was 203.8 pounds after fasting and dieting profusely under a very intense training regimen. I'm at 3 to 5% body fat. There's no where to cut from other than muscle and then strength.
"Vitor Vianna has competed in the 205-pound weight class and also in the 185-pound weight class so I believed this request was not unreasonable."
Brink will be fined $500 for not being able to make 185 for Friday's scheduled weigh-in. The 6-foot-3 native of Huntington Beach, Calif., is 23-18-1 since turning pro. He last fought on Aug. 20 in the Gladiator Challenge at Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, Calif., defeating Dan Quinn via a second-round TKO.
