Minorités, a French blog on gay culture and politics, featured an analysis of “Island.”
Reviewer and professor of philosophy Richard Mèmeteau compared 25-year-old filmmaker Ryan Sullivan to some of the most celebrated directors in international cinema, including Pier Paolo Pasolini, David Lynch and Luchino Visconti.
"Usually, documentaries about porn either turn into porn or miss the obscenity of porn entirely,” Memeteau said. “Our exceptionally gifted film maker manages to reconcile the two by invoking a superior beauty, a superior mystery."
"Island" has been accepted into both the Berlin and Hamburg porn film festivals. Sullivan plans to attend the Berlin festival in late October, his first public appearance.
"Island" made its festival debut last year at Mix Film Festival Brasil. The DVD release of "Island" is scheduled for later this year, bundled with Treasure Island Media's "What I Can't See 3."
