Andrews told XBiz that she had heard about the formation of WIA as the first official industry organization to represent women in adult, and that she was thrilled to be asked to participate.
"It has been a long, hard struggle after eleven years to be able to finally have a voice," Andrews told XBiz. "I hope that a group like WIA will someday make it a little bit easier for up-and-comers to survive in this industry. I want to help as much as possible."
Andrews' career spans from her years as an adult film star to eventually running her own business, Britco Pictures, and overcoming some of the stereotypes she feels she endured during her years as talent.
Britco Pictures is located in downtown Los Angeles and rents out sound stage space to porn production companies.
Andrews told XBiz that she is planning to run for political office sometime in 2005, but her plans are still under wraps. She has also made frequent appearances on Dateline, Fox News, and various radio shows as a representative for the porn industry.
"In many ways adding Brittany to the board is like finding the missing link, the missing part of the puzzle," Holly Moss, WIA founder, told XBiz. "Having her join us will provide a gateway to the talent side of the industry that we were lacking before. I'm so happy she has decided to join us."
WIA board members made Andrews' appointment official this weekend at their inaugural cocktail party at Webmaster Access. Considered one of the hottest tickets during a weekend filled with parties, the WIA gathering attracted some of the industry's biggest movers and shakers, both men and women, and provided a successful forum for networking, meet-and-greet, and industry awareness on WIA's goals as the industry's newest organization.
Officially formed in September of this year, WIA's mission is to provide support and empowerment to women in the adult industry. The organization will act as both an advocacy forum as well as a vehicle for networking, relationship building, and a strong backbone of support that was previously absent from the adult industry.
"I'm really looking forward to brainstorming with other board members," Andrews said. "You know, once the men in this industry start bitching about what you're doing, you know you're doing a good job."
Andrews will make her first appearance on the WIA Board of Directors at their December meeting.
