XBIZ Offers Advice on Recession-Proof Careers

LOS ANGELES — Adult entertainment still holds the promise of a stable career path when compared to many segments of the economy — a situation which is attracting a new wave of entrants to the industry.

Authored by Jeff Cohen, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Recession-Proof Careers, "a surefire approach to finding secure employment — now and for the future," features a section on the various ongoing opportunities in the adult entertainment industry.

XBIZ World Managing Editor Stephen Yagielowicz is quoted in the book.

"The global demand for adult entertainment products and services is enormous; and companies that can bring innovative offerings to market and are able to compete at the highest levels should be able to profit regardless of the broader economic outlook," Yagielowicz said. "Far from being the stereotypical province of 'back-room thugs,' the brain trust behind the top tier adult companies could be the envy of any industry, and will always need personnel of the highest caliber."

Noted First Amendment attorney Lawrence G. Walters is also quoted in the work, which cites opportunities in the on- and offline sectors, novelty retail and the club circuit.

"The adult industry relies on a basic human instinct for its continued viability — sex drive. Like industries such as farming, medicine, and energy, a reduction in disposable income does not impact one's basic needs for food, shelter, and intimacy," Walters said. "While the profitability of commercial erotica has been impacted by external factors like piracy, criminal prosecutions and the availability of free material online, the economy will have little effect, as individuals will not hesitate to spend scarce dollars satisfying the need for sexual experiences."

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Recession-Proof Careers is now widely available, including online at Amazon.com.
