X-Play owner and director Will Ryder told XBiz that the idea behind the decision to switch labels is that Hustler’s broader name recognition will open Rears up to a worldwide audience and bring the “Britney Rears 2” even more publicity than the original.
That might be easier said than done, considering the massive promotional blitz that surrounded “Sex Party.” For seven months, marketing firm All Media Play plugged the movie’s theme song, “I Wanna Get Laid,” on radio stations, and Rears was a frequent guest on the Howard Stern and made numerous store appearances, helping to make the movie LFP’s top-selling DVD in 2005.
Jeff Mullen, president of All Media Play, said the move to Hustler Video was made purely for publicity reasons, noting that “Peter Reynolds at VCA did a remarkable job [with the first movie] because nobody really knew if this [concept] would fly or not.” But being on the Hustler Video label also comes with additional perks. For example, Hustler owner Larry Flynt lent his private black Hustler jet to the production.
“We now head off to the music and TV soundstage to shoot the Britney music video, which will be a big part of the movie,” Ryder said.
“Britney Rears 2” is scheduled for release in early 2006 with a cast that includes Jenaveve Jolie, Shy Love, Sunny Lane, Eva Angelina, Nadia Styles and Nyomi Marcela. .
