Call for PodPorn Filter Prompts Software Research

As adult-oriented content continues to merge with Video iPod, parents are seeking ways to monitor what their children are downloading and watching — and software companies are beginning to respond.

Companies have started researching the software tools needed to filter pornography video content on iPods. At the forefront is the California-based company CYBERsitter, which markets Internet monitoring software.

In a statement earlier this month, CYBERsitter owner Brian Milburn said he expects his company will be one of the first to meet the need for a PodPorn filtering system, especially as peer-to-peer file sharing services continue to meet the demand for iPod porn.

"You have to ask yourself whether little Johnny would rather download the latest episode of 'Desperate Housewives,' or a steamy adult video," Milburn said.

For good reason, too. Reports show that teens influence more than $60 billion in spending annually. And podcast shows such as PodPorn and Whorecast, which can be directly downloaded to any iPod and contain sexually explicit talk with graphic images, are rapidly gaining popularity with iPod owners, many of whom are teens.

For adult content entrepreneurs, it could be the beginning of a new, lucrative market, though advocacy groups are expected to begin calling for laws that mandate filtering software, such as DRM tools, on actual video devices.

Currently, explicit content can be blocked from Apple’s iTunes using the “parental controls” in the program. Free Internet filtering software is also available for download via various websites.

But adult content is still a driving force in creating large revenues for many technological device companies and PodPorn is expected to be a hot new market, despite any disproval. Other companies that have jumped onto the Video iPod bandwagon include Cams.com, Sin City, Evil Angel,Xobile, Porncaster.net, Flava, Guba and COLT. All have plans to release live webcam videos for use on Video iPod, or have done so already.

ITunes users are also able to subscribe to some adult sites and remain informed of new releases. Additionally, FreePornforPods.com offers trailers of DVD releases from Peter North’s NorthStar Associates NorthPole/Zaye Entertainment in iPod and PSP video formats.
