AMG President Dennis Bell said his team uncovered a “real treasure” while opening hundreds of boxes of Bob Mizer films. Fontaine had given Mizer the rights to his library of film negatives.
“Bob continued to sell the films through Physique Pictorial, under the AMG name for decades,” Bell said. “Imagine our delight to find that Fontaine’s film negatives were still intact and well preserved among the rest of AMG’s films.”
Originally released in 1954, “The Days of Greek Gods” stars Bob Delmonteque, Artie Zeller and Johnny Apollo, all known for their solid physiques. Bell said this film was groundbreaking in its production, sound, dialogue and plot use.
Fontaine shot much of his films at the AMG compound and according to Bell encouraged him to shoot in 8mm and had much influence on gay filmmaking. By the late 1960s, Fontaine’s films were even shown in art houses and small movie theaters across the country.
