Both ABC affiliate KAKE and CBS affiliate KBSD say they have confirmed that after more than a month of deliberation, a grand jury has indicted Priscilla’s, accusing the store of selling items in violation of the state’s obscenity law.
Because it is illegal for public officials to discuss grand jury proceedings before an arraignment, XBiz has been unable to independently confirm the news.
As XBiz has reported, Priscilla’s was one of seven Wichita adult stores under investigation by state officials at the prompting of a group calling itself Operation Southwind.
Operation Southwind has been pushing prosecutors to target adult stores. The other stores under investigation but not indicted were Adult Superstore, Camelot Cinema, two X-Citement Video stores, Zigefields and After Dark Video. Priscilla’s was the only store that the grand jury felt prosecutors could present a solid case against.
Operataion Southwind director has started another petition against nine other adult businesses in Wichita.
“We have over 2,000 signatures [calling for an investigation of] the other nine,” said the group’s director, Jan Beemer. “We only need 2,580 to go back to court.”
Beemer said the group also intends to gather signatures against adult businesses outside of Wichita.
