Webinar to Examine iPhone Streaming

CYBERSPACE — Akamai Technologies will host a live webinar on Sep. 2, showcasing the latest in iPhone video distribution strategies and solutions and featuring presentations by experts from Akamai, Inlet Technologies and Turner Sports.

"With the introduction of the Apple's iPhone OS 3.0 Software, consumers can now experience live and on-demand streaming video — natively — on all OS 3.0 enabled devices," said the show's promoter. "There has never been a better time for content providers to offer high-quality video to iPhone users."

Featured presenters include Akamai Media & Entertainment Chief Strategist, Tim Napoleon; Inlet Technologies Senior VP for Strategy and Business Development, John Bishop; and Turner Sports Executive Director of Digital Partnerships, Peter Scott.

Topics scheduled to be discussed at the webinar include how Apple's HTTP adaptive delivery mode works; standards-based ways to deliver video on the iPhone and the benefits of HTTP live and on-demand streaming; as well as a look at the Spinnaker plug-and-play encoder.

Case studies on how businesses are using iPhone streaming will be presented, with a focus on the ways in which entities such as NASA, Fox Business and Fox News are using the technology — as well as a look at why Turner Broadcasting chose the iPhone for streaming the PGA Championship — including an overview of technical and business challenges presented by the PGA Championship and how they were addressed.

A live Q&A session will follow the formal presentations.

The webinar is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. PST. Attendees may register online.
