"Best Men: Part 1: The Bachelor Party" and "Best Men: Part 2: The Wedding Party" starring Zeb Atlas and Matthew Rush, among other gay adult luminaries, were collectively nominated for a 2009 XBIZ Award as GLBT Film of the Year.
Troy Prickett, Falcon's director of promotions, said the nationwide economic malaise initially put a crimp in the company's plans for Blu-ray.
"The downturn forced us to rethink our strategy for the timing of the release of any title on Blu-ray," he told XBIZ, noting the company watched closely as the price of Blu-ray players dropped.
"We also recognized that even though HD downloads are available, there are bandwidth issues which impact video and audio quality," he said. "These factors combined with reduced rates for Blu-ray authoring and the ongoing competition for market share suggested the timing was now appropriate."
Additional all-male producers releasing on the format include Jet Set Productions, Raging Stallion Studios and Titan Media.
The "Best Men" films were chosen due to their "tremendous success" in the wholesale and retail markets. "These two titles were best suited for a limited test run to help us determine whether the market was ready for Falcon on Blu-ray," said Prickett.
The company has not announced which sexpics will follow on Blu-ray. However, they are pleased by early response to the "Best Men" reissues and have begun tailoring production plans for new films accordingly.
"As we continue to shoot in HD, the plan is to have more films available in the Blu-ray format," Prickett said. "Bonus content with expanded menus and increased interactivity will be part of our Blu-ray offerings; as the technology evolves, so will the content, which makes it truly exciting."
He said Falcon looks forward to customer and retailer feedback. "We actively solicit input from our customers and look to them to provide guidance as we move forward with Blu-ray."
