ASACP Increases Mainstream Exposure

LOS ANGELES — The adult industry supported Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) is making a difference in the fight against child pornography — and the mainstream media is paying increased attention to those efforts.

XBIZ reported the release of the association's latest public service announcement (PSA) earlier this week, which informs viewers "How to Report Child Pornography" — a story which has been getting an increasing amount of media attention, including national coverage on Examiner.com; which highlighted the industry's involvement in the war against illegal CP and the role of ASACP, the association founded in 1996 by XBIZ President Alec Helmy.

"ASACP's CP hotline receives an average of 7,000 reports each month; however, coming across CP on the Internet is a situation few are prepared for. What makes it so difficult is the shock of seeing the image of a very young child, even babies, being horribly sexually abused. It's so upsetting that many people have a hard time properly reporting what they've seen," ASACP CEO Joan Irvine said. "That is why ASACP created this new PSA on how to report CP."

"ASACP is recognized as one of the leaders among the child pornography reporting hotlines," Irvine told XBIZ. "In addition to sending the confirmed CP reports to NCMEC, FBI, other law enforcement, and international hotlines; ASACP's forensic staff is in constant contact with law enforcement and have been asked to be expert witnesses for legal cases."

In addition to its CP reporting hotline, ASACP works to help parents prevent children from viewing age-inappropriate material online, through proactive initiatives like its "Restricted To Adults" website labeling campaign; and offers Best Practices for a variety of adult entertainment industry segments.

"With the launch of the Restricted To Adults (RTA) website label and the public service announcement educational campaign, ASACP has been garnering greater visibility in mainstream press," Irvine said. "All of this has been made possible by the adult industry."

The association has received significant mainstream recognition for its proactive actions and PSAs that feature a number of top adult personalities; including Stormy Daniels, Ron Jeremy, Sunny Leone, Catalina Cruz, Chi Chi LaRue and Tera Patrick and Evan Seinfeld.

"The adult industry should be proud of its support of ASACP and what we can accomplish by working together," Irvine concluded. "With this ongoing support, ASACP can continue its mission, as well as educate the community about the adult industry's commitment to child protection."
